How do you fit steel connections over large combination glulam columns?...carefully.
Joking aside, these columns stood out to us when we saw them in fabrication.
They're 14" x 14" so we needed to alternate smaller pieces of nominal lumber (in this case 2" x 6"and 2" x 10") to get to the desired finished size. To find out more about combination layups, check out our blog article here.
These columns are cut at the bottom to fit into the base shoes. We're shop-fitting the connections.
These columns are 12" x 12" and taper at the top to connect to the roof beam.
