Music Center With Glulam Recital Hall Taking Shape

Work continues at the Music Center at Indian Hill, and we have some great progress photos to share. Again, we send our thanks to David Foxe at Epstein Joslin Architects, Inc. for these photos.

The photo we posted previously showed a two-story glulam structure with curved beams supported by sloped glulam columns. In this photo, you can see how that part of the building (on the left) fits with the Recital Hall (on the right.)

Here's a closer look at the Recital Hall. Curved glulam timber 'tuning fork' columns support steel roof trusses. From the interior, lots of planning and careful coordination keep glulam and wood decking exposed with minimal visible steel.

Inside there's a beautiful performance space, complete with a stage and balcony. It's hard to find any straight lines in the entire building - that's for acoustics. For this project, we're not only concerned that it looks fantastic and stands up for years to come, but the performances in it have to sound impeccable.

But wait, there's more! This represents roughly one third of the total completed project. Stay tuned as we begin to manufacture and install more classroom space and the Concert Hall.
