Custom Glulam Decking for Music Center Recital Hall

The Recital Hall at Music Center at Indian Hill in Groton, MA has some complicated glulam details that the audience probably won't notice.
To ensure great acoustics for performances, the roof is curved and wavy. Roof decking is flat and straight, so it's tough to get the decking to fit to the curves of the roof. It gets especially 'wavy' above the stage, and to cover this area we had to manufacture special glulam decking that's narrower than anything we could buy from decking suppliers.
If you look closely, you can make out the change in decking above the stage. You'll also notice the glulam blocking we made that attaches to the bottom chord of the steel roof trusses.
Here's the blocking in our plant, cut to overall shape but before we cut the variable bevel. These are small, but important, details in a huge glulam mass timber project. Together, they will add up to a fantastic performance experience in the finished music center.

Tune in to our blog next week when we highlight the recital hall walls.
