Ledger: Wednesday's Word of the Week

Remember Wednesday's Word(s) of the Week on our blog? We thought we had done every glulam word imaginable. Then we were looking at a job in finishing and noticed that we were attaching a ledger. It dawned on us - ledger deserves to be a word of the week - so here it is.

In this photo, the ledger is attached to what will be the side of the beam. When installed, this will be a floor beam, and the top of this beam is going to be higher than the surrounding beams. We needed to install this ledger, so the floor deck will have something to bear on. When installed, the top of the deck will be flush with the top of the beam.
