Extreme Face Bonding

Last week we published a post on the Face Bonding process. This morning it was all hands on deck for a super special gluing.

We are currently manufacturing beams that are 14" wide, almost 6' deep, and over 80' long! Anything over 10-1/2" wide requires a combination lay up, and therefore a special gluing process.

To create the 14" width, we staggered 2x4 and 2x12 material while laying up the plies. You can the seam in the photo below, where the 2x12 ends and the 2x4 begins.

Since the beams are so long, we need a lot of hands working together to lay up the 104 80' long plies in under 1 hour.

In the next post we'll show you how we move, and plane a 6' deep beam that weighs more than 22,000 lbs...
