Here are some current photos of a project we supplied way back in 1974 - the Union College Field House in Schenectady, NY.
For this job, we manufactured glulam barrel arches. Barrel arches are similar to gothic arches because both have a circular profile - meaning that they have a constant radius. A barrel arch, as you can see, is flat at the top, while in a gothic arch the two halves come together at a peak.
These particular barrel arches were made in three parts and connected together with moment connections. We think it's a little unusual that these would have been made in three, rather than two parts, but they may have done that to keep the shipping width down. If there was another reason, it was lost to history.
