Yesterday, my co-worker delivered this to me and announced that we have nearly a dozen more in our steel shop. It's sort of funny, because we don't exactly know where they came from. They're quite substantial, and we think the two flat sections of the wheel were meant to mount to brackets in a pavilion or gazebo. But, we're really not sure.
There's a good chance they were made to go with a gazebo given in memory of a Rotarian from Unalam. Most likely, this would have been John Van Cott, our company president in the 70s and 80s, and my grandfather. Grandpa John enthusiastically volunteered for Rotary, even serving as a Director and the Treasurer of Rotary International.
Here at Unalam, we know that work is an important part of our lives, but so is our community and the wider world. A great number of our team members from all through the years serve or have served in many volunteer organizations. As for me, I caught the Rotary bug from Grandpa John, and I think that's why this ended up on my desk.
