New glulam roof trusses are going into a building at our nearby state university. After we manufactured and fabricated the glulam we assembled it in our shop, so the installer could pick and place it in the building shortly after delivery. We try to do this wherever possible, because it saves time and money on installation.
A reason this would not be practical would be if the finished truss were too wide to ship. In that case, we might shop fit, rather than shop assemble the project. This also helps facilitate assembly, saving time.
