Glulam - Before We Even Built Our Plant

Today, we're traveling in our Wayback Machine to a time before we had even built our current plant in Sidney, NY. From around 1958 until 1963 (when the plant opened,) we made both glulam and wood silos in our Unadilla mill. In fact, we made the bowstring trusses for our plant at this mill.

When I was researching these photos I came across from the construction of St. George Orthodox Church in Allentown, PA, I realized it must have been manufactured at our mill. We were able to find a handwritten ledger, showing that the order came in on August 1, 1962.

I asked our President, Craig, who would have been nine at the time, how we managed to make such large projects in the confines of the mill. He remembers that we rolled beams and arches on caissons down the road from our gluing area to finishing. It really made us appreciate the more efficient set-up we have at our current manufacturing facility.

I haven't yet found photos showing glulam rolling down the street, but when I do I'll share them here. Until then, enjoy these old photos of this fantastic church structure (and the 'classic' cars.)
